INVENTARIUM: Digital asset inventory with controlled approval by a guardian

Assets in private households and businesses are rarely documented in a reliable manner. Purchases are scattered across Excel spreadsheets, paper folders, and memory. In the event of a claim, this results in a lack of proof regarding the existence, value, and location of individual items. For insurance advisors, this means an incomplete data set; for customers, it poses a real risk of underinsurance.

At the same time, asset data is highly sensitive. A solution in which an agent or advisor automatically gains access to all of their clients’ valuables would have been unacceptable from both a data protection and a client perspective.

The Goal

The goal was to develop an application that would allow end customers to track their assets independently, in a structured and legally compliant manner, while retaining full control over their data. The advisor should only be able to view data once the customer actively and individually grants access, and should then be able to review the insurance coverage and adjust it as needed based on that information. The solution was to run on all devices without relying on app stores, meet the highest security standards, and be financially self-sustaining through a subscription model.

Value Enhancement

INVENTARIUM is a productive solution combining a web application and a mobile app, implemented as a Progressive Web App (PWA), which customers can use on all devices and directly from their smartphone’s home screen. Using a logical object hierarchy, they digitally map their real-world environment: from the property to the room to individual items, complete with categories, characteristics, and insurance assignments. Each photo automatically saves the geodata of the location where it was taken, thereby providing digital proof of origin in the event of a claim.

At the heart of the solution is the controlled approval process: By default, the account manager sees nothing. Only when the customer assigns an item to an insurance policy, agrees to the consent form, and actively initiates the submission are these specific data released for review. After verification, the system confirms to the customer with the status “Assigned with Approval” that the item has been included in the policy. This makes underinsurance systematically visible and correctable.

The application is designed to be accessible in accordance with BITV 2.0 and WCAG 2.1 Level AA, making it fully usable by all user groups without restriction. Access is protected by mandatory two-factor authentication; data is transmitted in encrypted form and stored exclusively within the EU. The subscription model is based on the total value of assets recorded and scales dynamically: If a customer exceeds their limit, the app offers an upgrade without interrupting their workflow. For the first time, customers receive a complete, verifiable overview of their assets, while advisors gain a verified data foundation for tailored insurance coverage.
